Parthasarathy comments on new ARPA-H director

September 13, 2022 Nature

President Joe Biden recently named Renee Wegrzyn as the inaugural director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), a new agency tasked with finding innovative solutions to biomedical problems. Nature asked Shobita Parthasarathy, professor of public policy and director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, how she felt about the appointment.

"Shobita Parthasarathy, a social scientist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, whose research focuses on equity in biomedical innovation, agrees," Nature wrote. "She wants to see equity baked into ARPA-H from the outset, and hopes Wegrzyn will do this by placing emphasis on community outreach and input, especially from marginalized communities, to determine which health problems to tackle."
