Joe Schwarz, lecturer in public policy, weighed in on two bills passed in the Michigan House of Representatives this week. The bills would make conducting medical research on stem cells derived from abortions a five-year felony.
"That is nonsense. Nobody is suggesting or performing abortions for the simple purpose of harvesting stem cells,” Schwarz said. “This is yet another example of legislative overreach by a Legislature, the vast majority of whom do not understand stem cell research, probably do not even understand what a stem cell is.”
