State inflation relief checks are not a stimulus, says Hausman

A dozen states are providing tax rebates to residents who qualify. Professor Joshua Hausman told NPR Marketplace they are designed to help people deal with rising prices, not stimulate the economy.

“This is not a good idea if you care about inflation, because the way inflation falls is for people to spend less, and so sending them money does exactly the opposite,” he said.
