Ford School's Celia Fan shared findings from research on voter engagement with The Drumbeat. Fan attested to low levels of voter engagement through data showing "There were a few Detroiters who said that they weren’t sure about their voting plans this November, it’s because they needed more information. Or they were newly, eligible voters that wanted more information... The bigger issue we saw was actually a lack of trust in politicians. More than a quarter of Detroiters who said that they didn’t plan to vote because they either didn’t trust politicians or didn’t feel like their voter matters... I believe a lot of them are just trying to point out that they are disappointed, they don’t feel like their voices are heard." However, Fan offered hopes of increased voter turnout among younger generations; "We found that, compared to other age groups, younger voters are more motivated to vote after the race switched to between Harris and Trump [from previously between Biden and Trump]."
