Do swings in the stock market affect consumer perception? Wolfers weighs in

Justin Wolfers, Ford School professor and economist, amid concerns about recession, he says one of his favorite gauges for consumer sentiment about recession is to see how often they google the word recession "it used to be that that would only spike during really bad times, like really deep recessions." But now "people are back to Googling the word ‘recession’ like crazy" mostly he says because of the media coverage of the market and not because a recession is likely.
