Ford School professor emeritus, Alan Deardorff commented on why so many economist dislike tariffs. He said Vice president Harris is "right that his tariffs are like a sales tax, in the sense that consumers everywhere are going to end up paying.” He also said that since the last Trump administration, “you can’t find anything in the data indicating that the foreign prices went down" when tariffs were implemented.
