Stevenson explains why manufacturing performance differs across the country

Betsey Stevenson, Ford School professor and economist, talked on NPR Marketplace about why manufacturing is doing well in some parts of the US and worse in other regions. Stevenson said, “I often think that Americans forget how big the United States is." She noted that, “We always see really big differences in the economic situation across the country.” She highlighted that different parts of the country manufacture different things, and that consumers have shifted their purchasing since the pandemic.
