A fresh look: What’s next for State & Hill magazine

November 4, 2025

State & Hill has long been the Ford School’s flagship publication—telling stories about our faculty, students, and alumni who make a real-world impact through scholarship and public policy engagement. Every edition demonstrates the ongoing value of a Ford School education and the things that unite our community.

Over the past decade, the ways we connect, learn from, and lift up one another have transformed. Our alumni network keeps growing, resources are tighter, and digital platforms offer new possibilities to highlight triumphs, insights, and contributions. State & Hill must keep pace. Our commitment: keep print alive, while evolving for greater sustainability and even greater impact.

A new model:

  • Annual theme: Each year, we’ll explore a central issue in public policy—creating a thread that runs through each edition.
  • Spring – Expanded, redesigned print issue: In-depth features, faculty research, alumni achievements, and stories that reflect the full vibrancy of the Ford School.
  • Fall in brief – Concise, photo-driven print edition: A concise, visually striking look at milestones and recent news, with QR codes and web links for a deeper dive online.
  • Year-round digital access: Both issues will be available online, complemented by real-time updates in our e-newsletter, social media, and web exclusives—ensuring you never miss a beat, wherever you are in the world.

Why now?

Our audience is diverse: engaged alumni, enthusiastic donors, future students, public policy leaders, and the wider university community. This new cadence lets us invest in modernized design, streamlined production, and digital innovation—while maintaining the benefits of print. It’s about honoring what works and responding to how—and where—our readers want to connect.
