Jerry Ford, the only U.S. president from Michigan, was not only unelected. He is also, I would argue, underappreciated.
Ford served as president during America's bicentennial, in 1976, another time of turmoil. As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, I believe we would profit from learning some lessons from Michigan's man in the White House.
