This edition of State & Hill focuses on the growth in the international policy experiences we offer our students. Students have more options than ever before to tailor their experience at the Ford School and prepare for careers in international policy.
The Ford School's two internationally-focused research centers have made the U-M a dynamic hub for engagement with the foreign policy community and a national leader in international policy education. S&H asked associate dean and center director John Ciorciari for his thoughts on the school's approach to international policy education.
As travel resumed in 2022, students once again took their learning abroad to expand their worldview and hone practical skills. Undergraduate and graduate students traveled to Tunisia, Budapest, China, South Korea, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Guatemala, and more—applying the skills and knowledge they’ve learned here at the Ford School to internships and research projects. Travel courses took groups of students to Chile and to Belgium to meet directly with stakeholders grappling with the policy challenges they were learning about in the classroom.
For many Fordies, admissions director Beth Soboleski (MPP '89) was the first person they met at Michigan. Beth is retiring this spring after 20 years of recruiting and welcoming new students at the Ford School.
