Join Professor Shaefer and the research team as they discuss the Index of Deep Disadvantage which seeks to unpack poverty beyond income-based measures to other dimensions of disadvantage including health and social mobility.

The index reveals stark disparities across the U.S. and can be used to help direct resources and action to where they’re needed most.

Research assistants Meg Duffy, Jasmine Simington, and Lanora Johnson spent time examining local perspectives that provide a deeper understanding of America’s most vulnerable communities. Read more about their experiences.

This talk is part of the Real-World Perspectives on Poverty Solutions virtual series designed to ignite new
conversations and deepen our understanding of poverty prevention and alleviation strategies and programs.
