Career talk with Andrew Clark

Student Academic Services and the Weiser Diplomacy Center host a career talk with Andrew Clark, U-M History graduate '08 and a current Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State. Andrew will summarize his career in foreign affairs and answer any of your questions. 

From the speaker's bio

Andrew Clark is a Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State, and he has served as a Middle East political and economic advisor for the U.S. government since 2012.  Andrew is currently the Senior Economic Advisor to the U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen, where he identifies opportunities to address economic drivers of the conflict in Yemen and bring economic relief to the Yemeni people.  

He most recently worked in the Department of State’s Office of Threat Finance Countermeasures on counterterrorism sanctions and illicit finance, with a particular focus on Iran and its network of militant proxies and partners.  He previously served as Acting Senior Director for the Gulf States and Egypt at the White House National Security Council, where he helped shape U.S. policy toward Gulf Cooperation Council member states, Yemen, and Egypt.  Other prior roles at the State Department include the Middle East Regional Economic Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, and the Egypt Desk Officer handling political and economic issues in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.  As a former Presidential Management Fellow, Andrew spent time on rotation to the Joint Staff, Strategic Plans and Policy (J5) in the Department of Defense.

Before joining the U.S. government, Andrew worked and studied in Egypt and Lebanon.  Andrew holds a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Middle East Studies from the University of Oxford.
