Brian Jacob quoted in Time article about incentive-based education research

April 8, 2010

At Time’s request, Brian Jacob reviewed the findings of an incentive-based education study for an article called "Should kids be bribed to do well in school?" The article describes a rigorous and unique experiment by Roland Fryer, Jr. that tested the educational benefits of rewarding kids with money. According to Jacob’s assessment, the effects were "substantial." If incentives are designed wisely, it appears, payments can indeed boost kids' performance as much as or more than many other reforms you've heard about before — and for a fraction of the cost, he told Time.
