Research by MPP students in Elisabeth R. Gerber's Applied Policy Seminar was cited in multiple press reports about a new Macomb County task force. The task force will work to promote and expand Macomb County's already significant share of economic activity related to the defense industry.
"This U of M study confirms what we have always believed … Macomb County is the Defense Capitol of the Midwest," Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said in a statement. "Nearly two-thirds of all defense contracts awarded in Michigan go to Macomb County firms. We plan to build on this successful foundation and use it as a core economic development strategy for the future."
The Applied Policy Seminar, now called Strategic Public Policy Consulting or SPPC, enables Ford School MPP students to serve as consultants to real-world policy organizations, developing key professional skills as they tackle significant policy challenges in the public, private, or non-profit sectors. Past clients have included One Lenawee and Amnesty International USA.
