Susan M. Collins was interviewed by Bloomberg's Bottom Line news show prior to President Barack Obama's September 8th speech before Congress. Asked how the President should address the current 9.1 percent unemployment rate, Collins recommended that he develop comprehensive fiscal policy focused on hiring. Those policies could include short-term unemployment intervention, assistance to states and localities, longer-term structural reforms, and job creation tax incentives.
In addition, Collins said the President's leadership is critical for passing a realistic and comprehensive job creation bill through Congress.
