Michigan Radio's Michigan Watch interviewed Joe Schwarz, a lecturer at the Ford School and former member of Congress, about how a recent Supreme Court decision to remove the cap on political ad spending will affect voters.
Some, like John Samples of the Cato Institute, say that removing the cap enables free speech while others, including Schwarz, think voters may be unevenly swayed by the amount of money spent on political campaigns.
"Well, the system of checks and balances is completely gone. Citizens United was the straw that broke the camel's back. The amount of money that is going to come in here is obscene," Schwarz explained. "The harm is that the voter is not getting straight information."
