The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) announced the appointment of Matthew M. Davis as chief medical executive for the state. In his new role, Davis will provide MDCH with professional medical expertise on public health issues and development of related policy.
"Dr. Davis has extensive experience as a leader and collaborator with the State of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality," James K. Haveman, Director of the MDCH, said in a release by the department. "Having his expertise on hand at the Department of Community Health will be invaluable as we work to continually improve the health, wellness, and safety of Michigan residents."
Davis has been part of the University of Michigan faculty since 2000, during which he has conducted research into vaccines, government-run health programs, and public opinion on health policy, most notably the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health. In addition to his post at the Ford School, he also serves as associate professor of pediatrics and associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. Davis will remain on faculty at the University of Michigan while assuming his new position at MDCH.
