Shobita Parthasarathy has been elected to the Governing Council of the Society for the Social Studies of Science. The decision was announced in the society's email newsletter, Technoscience Update, on July 15.
The Society for the Social Studies of Science, also called 4S, brings together scholars working on the policy ramifications of developments in healthcare, technology and science. 4S awards prizes to scholars for books, articles and career distinction in their fields, as well as coordinating conferences and publishing a bimonthly, peer-reviewed journal, Science, Technology, and Human Values. As a member of 4S's Governing Council, Professor Parthasarathy will sit on committees, help determine prize winners, and attend two meetings per year, one of which will coincide with the Society's Annual Meeting, held this year in Buenos Aires.
Parthasarathy has been at the University of Michigan since 2005, when she arrived after a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California—Los Angeles. She was co-director of the Science, Technology and Public Policy Program at Michigan from 2006 to 2011.
Shobita Parthasarathy is an associate professor of public policy at the Ford School.
