This winter, Ruth Browne (MPP/MPH ’83), will return to the Ford School as the 2015 Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation Policymaker in Residence.
Browne is currently the CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health, a leader in providing and “expanding access to care among the most vulnerable populations in urban areas.” In 2013’s “Improving urban health through the power of community,” Browne articulated the Ashe Institute’s importance: “Every community has assets – trusted mentors, business leaders, church leaders – the institute gives them the tools, resources, and support they need to leverage those assets so they can be more proactive about their health, the health of their families, and the health of their communities.”
During her residency, Browne will teach Health Disparities, described as an interactive seminar that will “critically examine health disparities within various groups by race, socio-economic status, gender, sex, immigration, and incarceration status, including the health consequences of incarceration and health policy as it relates to re-entry.”
Browne will also participate in Policy Talks @ the Ford School on January 28, presenting “Credible messengers, critical trust: Community health empowerment.” The talk is free and open to the public.
