LGBTQ panelists examine job search,” Jing Jing Ma’s January 27 article for the Michigan Daily, highlights Out in Public’s “Out on the Job (& Internship) Market” event. The event assembled LGBTQ individuals and allies “to discuss personal and public issues facing LGBTQ students searching for employment.”

“Out on the Job (& Internship) Market” consisted of a presentation by Katie Dunn, a career counselor in the School of Information, followed by a panel discussion and an informal question-and-answer session. The panelists included Ford School alum Jonathan Moore (MPP ’12), who works as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. According to Ma, Moore said he includes his sexual orientation on his resume and addresses the issue if it comes up in interviews. Moore hopes that potential employers evaluate him based on his skills, not his identification as a gay male.

Out in Public is the LGBTQ and ally group at the Ford School of Public Policy. By their description, they “seek to create a welcoming space for LGBTQ people at the Ford School, engage the wider Ford School community in dialogue about LGBTQ issues and connect with other LGBTQ groups across campus.”
