Each spring since 2008, Ford School faculty and staff nominate dozens of outstanding student research and service projects for recognition at the Gramlich Showcase of Student Work. The event honors longtime U-M professor Edward (Ned) Gramlich, who served as director of the Ford School's predecessor, the Institute of Public Policy Studies, and was the founding dean when it transitioned to become the School of Public Policy in 1995. The Showcase is a tribute to Professor Gramlich’s belief in and commitment to the value of public policy education.
As all in-person events have been canceled due to the spread of COVID-19, the Gramlich Showcase is moving online. This year 70 student projects were nominated, and the Ford School has invited all student participants to share a digital version of their presentation, either as a poster or a short video. These presentations are shared below and we will spotlight each on social media in the coming months.
The Gramlich Showcase spotlights exceptional student work on a broad range of policy issues at the local, national, and international levels. Students are nominated by a faculty member to share their academic research and community engagement projects with the broader public, and engage in a dialogue about their work.
With classes moving online and students facing a myriad of unforeseen challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, this is an unprecedented moment in the history of the Ford School. As such, we understand not all nominated students will be able to submit their work to the Gramlich Showcase this year, but we congratulate them all on being nominated for their outstanding work, and look forward to celebrating more exceptional student work next year and for many years to come.
