In advance of Michigan’s August 4 primary election, the University of Michigan’s nonpartisan group Turn Up Turnout (TUT) continued to encourage students to vote. Ford School professor Edie Goldenberg, who was instrumental in starting TUT, spoke with WEMU radio about their efforts. COVID-19 caused Turn Up Turnout to shift most of its get out the vote campaign efforts from in-person activities to social media, email, and their website.
She added, “We have hotlines established for individual questions from students about voter registration or absentee ballot request, or anything else that concerns their election.”
Turn Up Turnout also worked with the deans from all the university departments to remind students through email to vote.
