Child tax credit empowers families, says Shaefer

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has suggested that lawmakers pick just one of the family policies in the safety net spending bill. The New York Times asked Luke Shaefer which one he would choose.

"The child tax credit is elegant in that it does something for all low- and middle-income families,” he said. “If we have to do only one, I believe the most good for the most people is the right principle to use in making that decision...It does the most to empower families to do what they think is best for their families.”
