Hall breaks down gubernatorial election controversy

Amidst claims that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is using a campaign finance loophole illegally to collect donations for the next gubernatorial election, Richard Hall, professor of public policy and political science, says that Whitmer needs to be careful. Whitmer has been using a 1984 ruling that says if a candidate is facing a recall, they don't have contribution limits. Whitmer is accused of using those funds for the general election.

“If you agree that limits on campaign contributions to candidates is a good thing, as I do, then this is clearly circumventing those laws,” Hall said.
