
Following the climate talks in Scotland, Barry Rabe, J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Professor of Public Policy, emphasized the impact that focusing on methane could have in the fight against climate change.
"Carbon lasts much longer, but an equivalent amount of methane does a lot more concentrated damage in the near term," he said. "And as we’ve begun to become concerned in the near term about major changes in temperature and with larger concerns about climate change, methane seems to be a so-called low-hanging fruit that if we were to address it now, we might reap some serious dividends over the next few decades."
