Dominguez: Some positives in weakened dollar

June 12, 2022 China Daily

A recent panel of the Hutchins Center on Fiscal & Monetary Policy and the Brookings Institution featuring Ford School professor Kathryn Dominguez examined the potential softening of the U.S. dollar as the world's dominant currency. The China Daily reported that the dollar's "eventual declining clout could strengthen the international financial system."

Dominguez told the panel there are some positives if the dollar loses share. She said a strong dollar as a reserve currency is in the national interest, but "exporters are less competitive when the dollar is stronger".
