Levitsky applauds Zelensky

March 9, 2022 CBS Detroit

Nearly two weeks after Russia initially invaded Ukraine, the fighting continues. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emerged as an international leader, which Melvyn Levitsky, professor of international policy and practice, discussed.

"(He is) a former Jewish television comedian. Putin talks about the Nazis in Ukraine, and it’s so ironic that the president of Ukraine is Jewish and his family suffered in the Holocaust," he said. "But he’s become a real hero. He’s standing up and providing resistance to a strong neighbor. So he’s become a real international hero."
