Christina Weiland, Ford School and Karl and Martha Kohn Professor of Social Policy, and co-director of the Education Policy Initiative, was named to EdReports’ New Advisory Board for Pre-K Curriculum Reviews to support "educators by providing comprehensive reviews of pre-K instructional materials, focusing on alignment with standards and key indicators of quality."
These curriculum reviews ensure "that educators have access to the best resources available." EdReports has worked on K-12 curriculum, and they say that this "expansion into pre-K materials reflects EdReports’ commitment to enhancing the quality and rigor of education from the earliest stages."
The report highlighted that "With over $250 million spent annually on pre-K curriculum, assessment, and professional development, and approximately 1.6 million children enrolled in state-funded pre-K programs nationwide, the need for strong, high-quality instructional materials has never been more pressing."
"A robust preschool education is essential for fostering critical development and learning, particularly in key areas like math, early literacy, and science," the report says. A high-quality curriculum can be especially helpful "for multilingual learners and children from marginalized backgrounds."
