The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is under scrutiny from the Trump administration. Many scholars, including the Ford School's Don Moynihan, are raising alarms over the threats to the CFPB. "The CFPB's basic mission is to protect American consumers from being ripped off," said Donald Moynihan. "Telling employees to stop work and stay home, as Russ Vought is doing, is not just incredibly wasteful, it is also a backdoor means to close the agency... I don't have much faith that the CFPB will continue aggressive enforcement of financial institutions, especially if those financial institutions are supporters of the president."
