Natasha Pilkauskas, associate professor of public policy at the Ford School, is one of 64 experts who were inducted into the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) this year. Approved by the NASI Board of Directors last week, Pilkauskas is recognized for her outstanding contributions to social insurance and related policy areas.
NASI is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to understanding how social insurance—systems that help workers and families pool risks to avoid loss of income due to illness, disability, unemployment, etc.—contributes to economic security.
“The Ford School is so fortunate to have Natasha Pilkauskas on our faculty. She is a productive scholar dedicated to conducting innovative policy-focused research that has improved the lives of low-income families and children in the United States. She also brings her deep social policy knowledge and expertise to the classroom where she prepares students to address the complex issues of poverty and income insecurity in the real world,” said Paula Lantz, James B. Hudak Professor of Health Policy and director of undergraduate programs at the Ford School.
Pilkauskas joins the Academy’s 1,200+ active members, including Lantz and professor of public policy and economics Betsey Stevenson. Elected NASI members have distinguished themselves by improving the quality of research, administration, or policymaking in an area of social insurance. Members make important contributions to the Academy’s policy, research, education, and leadership development initiatives by serving on expert study panels, task forces, working groups, and committees; speaking at conferences and other Academy events; and serving as collaborators for Academy initiatives.
About the National Academy of Social Insurance
Since the National Academy of Social Insurance was founded in 1986, it has provided rigorous inquiry and insights into the functioning of our nation’s social insurance programs – Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation. Now composed of over 1,200 of the nation’s top experts in social insurance and related policies and programs, the Academy studies how social insurance will meet the changing needs of American families, employees, and employers. The Academy also looks at new frontiers for social insurance, including areas of uninsured or underinsured economic risks. Visit www.nasi.org to learn more.
