“A shutdown is aligned with the goals of DOGE,” said Don Moynihan, a professor of public policy at the Ford School speaking with Wired. The network turned to Moynihan for insights regarding the federal employee firings taking place through DOGE's efforts to cut government spending. Moynihan added that a government shutdown would make it easier to conduct mass removal of civil servants, “In the president's executive order, he told DOGE to focus on nonessential employees, which is to say employees who are designated as nonessential during government shutdowns.”
