Bagenstos predicts CDC director absence will be long-term

Former CDC director, Susan Monarez, was fired just 28 days after her confirmation in the Senate in the summer of 2025. Since then, President Trump has failed to make any new nominations for the vacant position and the administration has been unresponsive regarding the issue. The Ford School's Sam Bagenstos stated, "I think there's a high likelihood that the CDC will not have a presidentially appointed and a confirmed director in [the remainder of] this administration."
