Lantz, Michelmore & Pilkauskas celebrate 100 years of ‘The Milbank Quarterly’ with special issue

April 25, 2023

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, The Milbank Quarterly published “The Future of Population Health: Challenges and Opportunities,” a special issue of 36 articles by a diverse set of leading and emerging scholars. Edited by Paula Lantz, James B. Hudak Professor of Health Policy at the University of Michigan's Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, and Alan Cohen and Sandro Galea of Boston University School of Public Health, the issue underscores that health is inextricable from the conditions that shape our world, as well as the need for scholarship that advances practical solutions to our population health challenges.

With leading voices on health equity and public policy "we celebrate the journal’s enduring legacy with a special issue dedicated to the future of population health,” Lantz and her co-editors wrote. “Composed of papers that address the most critical challenges facing population health over the next ten years, the issue offers insights into these challenges along with potential solutions—policies and strategies—for overcoming them.”

The issue covers the structural drivers of population health; state- and municipal-level policies and strategies to advance population health; key issues in population health and health equity; population health’s major challenges; public health systems and strategies; and the role of the US health system.

Associate professors Katherine Michelmore and Natasha Pilkauskas joined Lantz in penning articles detailing the link between health, socioeconomic well-being, and public policy.
