Ford School professor Charles R. Shipan was awarded the inaugural James Garand Outstanding Mentor Award. This award was presented on behalf of the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA) to commend two political scientists who have demonstrated excellence in mentoring undergraduates, graduate students, and junior faculty in the discipline.
Shipan will be honored for his mentorship throughout his career in a ceremony at the SPSA conference on January 12, 2024. This award comes with a $500 stipend and was made possible by an initial endowment contribution from Kenneth J. Meier.
