In Michigan, 1 in 4 K-12 students attend either a charter school or a school of choice district. Nearly all of Michigan's 532 public school districts participate in school choice. The Trump administration is shown to be an advocate for school of choice systems. Speaking with Bridge Michigan, Ford School's Sarah Cohodes touched on the potential impacts an expansion of school choice districts could have on communities. Cohodes mentioned Michigan is "too in the middle" where there is enough choice to be "destabilizing" for some districts finances but not enough to “start from scratch and have a new system, a new way of funding students.” School of choice systems can hurt enrollment and local funds for some districts while boosting enrollment and funding for others.
