The early abuses and limitations of Trump's power - Lowande

February 2, 2025 NPR

As President Trump rolls out slews of executive orders a day, news outlets are wondering how far Trump plans to stretch his power. Speaking with NPR, the Ford School's Kenneth Lowande offered his opinion on the multitude of executive actions taking place, some of which face barriers while others experience little restriction. Lowande stated, "dictators who can literally control the life or death of their subordinates, they still have trouble executing their initiatives and getting people to follow their orders... I think people need to keep in mind the fundamental human limitations of the challenge that any president faces." Lowande also commented on limitations the President has been able to strike down, "The most important check, if you made me pick one, is the one that they're attempting to smash through, which is an independent nonpartisan federal workforce."
