Richard L. Hall

Professor of Public Policy; Professor of Political Science

Richard L. (Rick) Hall is professor emeritus of political science and public policy. He has published widely on American national institutions, including participation and representation in Congress, interest group influence, campaign finance, congressional oversight, issue advertising, and health politics. He is currently writing a book on interest group lobbying and the role of political money in Congressional policy making. His career awards include the American Political Science Association 2020 Barbara Sinclair Lecture Award in recognition of his contributions to understanding the U.S. Congress, the 2021 Samuel Eldersveld Career Achievement Award for the study of Political Parties and Interest Groups, and the 2021 Excellence in Mentoring Award for his 35 years of work with PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. Prior to coming to the Ford School, Rick served in a staff role on Capitol Hill. He received his BA from the University of Iowa and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
